Our therapists use a a variety of modalities and techniques to help you meet your goals and address your needs. Understanding the type of therapy your therapist utilizes to assist you can be a key to understanding your needs and reaching therapeutic goals. Below is some information about different types of therapy methods available and some of methods we use in our practice.

Family Based Treatment (FBT)

FBT is a home-based treatment approach that today remains the only treatment proven effective in controlled trials for Anorexia Nervosa in adolescents. FBT takes an agnostic view of cause of the eating disorder and instead places the initial focus of re-feeding and full weight restoration promote recovery.

 

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT employs a framework based on the cognitive triangle which builds an understanding of the relationship between a person’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The therapist works to identify negative thought patterns and behavior cycles while gaining positive coping skills.

Motivational Interviewing

A form of collaborative conversation for strengthening a person’s motivation and commitment to change. It is a person-centered counseling style for addressing the common problem of ambivalence about change by paying particular attention to the language of change. It is designed to strengthen an individual’s motivation for, and movement towards a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion.

 

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

DBT is a skilled based therapy that focuses on distress tolerance, mindfulness, emotions regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. DBT has been shown to be effective in treating Borderline Personality Disorder and as a whole, is effective at helping clients with overwhelming emotions. TDBT assists clients in learning how their emotions by providing skills on how to manage stressful situations, remaining present in the moment, interacting and communicating with others, and helping clients learn how to not respond destructively or lose control.
